Wednesday's Birthday Shout-Out: John Kruk Goes "Eastbound and Down"

Sure, John Kruk still wears a solid face full of scruff when you see him on Baseball Tonight. But he's downright baby-faced compared to how he looked as the ringleader of the 1993 National League champion Philadelphia Phillies.

That, of course, was the same year that Kruk has his infamous (and hilarious) All-Star at-bat against Randy Johnson. But Kruk's hilarity continued off the baseball diamond. Rocking a look that would later become a staple of the Kenny Powers Collection, Kruk became a favorite guest of David Letterman.

In this interview, he gave some answers that would be right at home in an episode of Eastbound and Down. The only difference being that Kenny Powers might have spiced them up with a few well-placed expletives and an off-color joke about Canadians.

But who knows? Maybe Kruk has his own line of self-help tapes floating around somewhere?
