Ryan Madson's Wife Hates Phillies Fans

Photo: Philly Chit Chat
It's easy to take shots at Philadelphia sports fans as being a vile and heartless group when you don't live there. It's a lot harder when your husband makes his living there.

Which is why Sarah Madson (wife of Phillies pitcher Ryan) should get some sort of honor for having the courage (?) to speak her mind about Phillies Fan during a recent charity event.
"I hate the fans. It is bad enough that they bother us during the season, but they will not leave us alone in December when we go out to eat. We stayed here during the off season last year, but we will be going to California this year. There must be something particularly bad about Phillies fans because all the players leave in the off season."
It's bad enough that she doesn't even hedge her distaste for the fans, but then she tries to drag the other players under the bus as well? You've gotta wonder how well that's going to go over in the locker room. With the roster the Phils run out on a daily basis, the pressure of winning a World Series is already great enough. If the fans start believing the players don't actually like being there, well...good luck.

Besides, Philly can't be all that bad. If you ask Cliff Lee's wife, it beats the heck out of New York.

  1. Mrs. Madson,

Please try to remember, it's those same Phillies fans that pay for all those tickets and merchandise that allows you to live the lifestyle you have now. Perspective, my dear.

  2. i think it's that modicum of privacy. philly, for being a big city, is a small little neighborhood. not at all surprised that the fans continually come up to them all year long, especially given the "we buy the tickets" mentality. i think she will quickly be taught how to say "we just value our privacy".

this of course, comes from the man who had no problem evading velvet ropes at a club in tahoe to tell jerry rice that "with him, i never lost tecmo bowl"

  3. @Paul Major. Very easy to take cheap shots at the philly fans, but you have to have your head in the sand if you think for one minute other city's don't have issues at the ball park with their sports fans. What about the other 99% of philly fans who are polite, passionate, and loyal to their teams in all aspects? We just get swept under the rug by ignorant people like you because of a few who get out of hand from the effects of alcohol. Wasn't there a beating of a Giants fan in LA recently in the parking lot after the Dodgers lost, leaving a man in a medically induced coma? Wasn't there a man ejected at a pirates game recently during the game, only to be beaten by cops with billy clubs in front of thousands of Pittsburgh fans? Like I said, get your head out of the sand.

  4. I could see if they were abusive to them, but hating them because they want to meet her husband? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

  5. Could I have photo credit for Ryan and Sarah. I took that picture at the Cole Hamels Denim & Diamond event and Deadspin does credit me. Thanks

  6. I saw Madson and his family at the airport last year. i was going to ask for his autograph for my 87year old mother-in-law but the look on his wife's face pretty much stopped me. I like Ryan as a pitcher, his wife no so much. I guess there are good and bad in all.

  7. I'm saddened by Mrs. Madson's account, and agree that 99% of Philadelphia fans are fine people. Heck, I've been to a couple of Packer games in Philadelphia, and while subjected to some natured good natured heckling, I was also treated to a couple of beers, some nachos, and an excellent "double hotdog." Mrs. Madson- - in a few years, you'll be just HOPING someone stops by and asks your husband for a photo op or autograph. "Sic transit gloria mundi."

  8. Love the final comment by Ray:

"in a few years, you'll be hoping someone asks for a photo op or autograph"

Enjoy the 15 minutes while you can.

  9. Ms. Madsen is typical of West Coast Housewives. She farts and thinks it's perfume cause her ass don't stink. She has never struggled for nothing in her pinched nose life. If she had to be a blue collar Philadelphian, she would slit her Vuitton pocketbook. All I can say whatch out for the egg on your face when we dump your husband.

  10. Ray, well said my friend. Philadelphia fans are very passionate, but Mrs. Madson appears too smug to understand the blessings bestowed upon her and her husband. Now I know why he kicks things and breaks his toes, he's married to a Diva! I hope she remembers thes "impositions of fans bothering" them when he's out of baseball.Life and fame are both fleeting!!
